People First

People First of Tifton is a Self-Advocacy group that means "people with disabilities speaking for ourselves and working together to reach our dreams and our goals". 

The idea for People First came from a group home in Oregon in 1974 that housed 8 individuals. They were tired of being labeled "disabled" and wanted to be known as "people first," hence the name of the group. There are People First groups all over the world today. Our local chapter is located in Tifton, GA and is open to anyone with disabilities. 

Our meetings are run by a peer nominated board consisting of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Sergeant of Arms.
